Shaped by Elevation and Time
Raised by Elevation, Refined by Time
Nearly half a century ago, our family set out to find the right place to grow premium wine grapes and build a life rooted in the land. After years of searching, they discovered a rugged property high in the Howell Mountain Range, just below the Twin Sisters summit.
The first visit to the site was unforgettable. Reached by a winding stagecoach trail and shared with a roaming herd of bison, it felt more like the edge of wilderness than the beginning of a vineyard. But they saw the potential — a mountain site capable of producing exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon.
Years later, after extensive work to prepare the land, the first vines were planted at 1,800 feet above the Napa Valley floor. The vineyard’s volcanic soils, cooler nights, and long growing season would become the foundation of wines known for their structure, depth, and balance.
What began as a bold family decision has grown into a lasting commitment to craftsmanship, stewardship, and quality — carried forward by the next generation.
Stewardship Across Generations
The vineyard began with a vision—and it continues with the same steady purpose: to grow wines of depth and character, shaped by where they’re from.
Today, the second generation of the Lyons family is expanding and refining what their parents began—planting new blocks, reworking older ones, and continuing the thoughtful approach that has always defined Lyons Ranch.
Still family-owned. Still estate-farmed. Still rooted in the belief that great wine must first be grown before it can be made.
Why We Farm
Each bottle of Lyons Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon reflects the land, the season, and the hands that have tended it.
Some might see the close of harvest as a little sad, even a bit melancholy. But for us, it’s a quiet hooray. Another vintage is underway. The vineyard can rest—and so can we.
